Inge Wever: One of the women helping shape South Africa’s automotive industry through legal, governance and compliance leadership.

As South Africa’s automotive sector undergoes rapid change, legal and compliance specialists are playing an increasingly prominent role in helping dealerships adapt to new regulations, digital transformation and shifting consumer expectations.

According to the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), governance and regulatory oversight are becoming increasingly important as dealerships navigate evolving consumer protection standards, digital retail channels and a more competitive market environment. The association says this shift is elevating the role of legal, risk and compliance professionals across the industry.

While women remain underrepresented in many areas of the motor industry, they are increasingly occupying senior roles in legal, governance and compliance, where strategic decision-making and risk management are becoming critical to long-term business resilience.

Inge Wever, in-house legal counsel at Rola Motor Group and vice-chairperson of NADA’s Western Cape regional executive committee, said the industry’s future depends on balancing technological innovation with consumer trust and sound governance.
