Reverend Oscar Bougardt's recent Facebook post calls for a queer-free Cape Town, sparking outrage and controversy as he positions himself under the Straight Party banner ahead of local elections.

He said gay people belonged in cages and that 99% of paedophiles were homosexual.

Reverend Oscar Bougardt posted the appeal on Facebook on Wednesday, calling for what he wrote as an "LGBQI+ free" Cape Town.

He urged readers to vote for him for mayor under the banner of the Straight Party when the country goes to the polls in the local government elections on November 4.
