The Accord Party has appealed to the European Union (EU) and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to urgently intervene and de-escalate the rising political tension ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
The National Chairman of Accord, Maxwell Mgbudem, made the position of the party known on Wednesday in Abuja.
He disclosed that the party had written a letter dated 12 August to both the EU delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS on the rising political tension in Osun ahead of the Saturday election.
Mr Mgbudem described the election as a crucial test for the country’s democratic trajectory and a critical precursor to the 2027 general election.
He observed with concern the incidences of intimidation and violence targeting its members, saying such might threaten the credibility of the process.
