The Ministry of Culture is moving ahead with the protection, restoration and promotion of a Roman villa in Agia Efimia on Kefalonia, a monument dating from the 2nd to the 4th century AD.
The project, funded with €330,000 through the Ionian Islands 2021-2027 program, includes a protective shelter, a viewing platform with access provisions for people with disabilities, and conservation of mosaic floors and existing masonry.
Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said the project will ensure the monument’s comprehensive protection. “With the creation of this modern protection and visitor infrastructure, the archaeological site becomes safe, functional and accessible to all visitors,” she said.
The villa, near the center of the settlement, features a U-shaped layout, an atrium, two notable geometric mosaics and remains including walls, a cistern and baths.
