A €10.4 million modernization and underground expansion of the historic Archaeological Museum of Sparta is underway, Culture Minister Lina Mendoni has announced.
Funded by the Greek state and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, the project will nearly triple the 1874 neoclassical museum’s space from 360 to 1,081 square meters by adding two underground halls.
The upgrade will remove later structural additions, digitize exhibitions and restore the historic sculpture garden.
