The Culture Ministry is carrying out a program to protect and upgrade the Rhamnous archaeological site in Grammatiko, Attica, prioritizing restoration of its fortress and improvements to infrastructure, accessibility, safety and lighting.

Rhamnous, overlooking the Evian Gulf, preserves a fortified settlement, the Sanctuary of Nemesis, shrines and a burial road.

Its 800-meter outer wall, with gates and towers, is believed built during the Peloponnesian War to guard Athens’ grain shipments.
