Thousands head to the desert to witness the spectacular event
Thousands of UAE residents travelled into the desert to witness the annual Perseids meteor shower at its peak.
Optimal viewing conditions were created by the shower's peak coinciding with a new moon, minimising light interference.
Wednesday also saw six planets align in the early morning and a total solar eclipse visible across parts of Europe.
Viewers reported seeing 30 to 40 meteors, ranging from brief flashes to bright fireballs leaving trails across the sky.
