Valuation of Tata Group cos rose to over 27L Cr since he took charge 9 years agoMUMBAI: N Chandrasekaran, who will end his second term as the chief of Tata Sons in Feb 2027, has more than tripled the total market value of the group’s companies during his stint. Since Chandra took over the reins at Bombay House in Feb 2017, the m-cap of group companies has risen from Rs 8.4 lakh crore to over Rs 27 lakh crore, data from BSE and ETIG showed.In comparison, Ratan Tata, who became Tata Sons chairman in 1991 and hung up his boots in 2012, took the group’s total market cap from about Rs 8,000 crore to Rs 4.6 lakh crore, an almost 58-fold increase during his 21-year tenure.During Cyrus Mistry’s tenure as the group’s chief for about four years from Dec 2012 to Oct 2016, Tata Group companies’ total market cap had nearly doubled, from about Rs 4.6 lakh crore to Rs 8.5 lakh crore.Within the group, since TCS was listed in Aug 2004, the software services major has contributed the most to the group’s market cap. However, over the tenures of the three chiefs, the contribution of TCS to the group’s total market cap rise had fluctuated. During Ratan Tata’s tenure, more than half of the group’s market value rise was on the back of TCS, which, in Dec 2012, had a market cap of nearly Rs 2.5 lakh crore.During Mistry’s tenure at Tata House, TCS contributed about Rs 1.9 lakh crore or 22% to the group’s market cap rise while during Chandrasekaran’s tenure, since Feb 2017, TCS’s contribution to the jump in the group’s market cap was Rs 3.6 lakh crore or about 13%.On Wednesday, after the news about Chandrasekaran’s decision to end his tenure at Bombay House was made public, the group’s total market cap slid by almost Rs 45,000 crore, data from BSE showed.
