First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with Japan’s ambassador to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, to discuss cooperation and additional support for the energy sector.
According to Ukrinform, the Ministry of Energy reported the meeting.
The parties discussed the need to accelerate procurement of 62 power transformers for frontline regions of Ukraine, with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). One transformer has already been delivered to the Kherson region, and 27 to the Mykolaiv region.
Work is also underway with Japanese partners to procure specialized equipment for gas extraction. Ukraine is interested in exploring cooperation opportunities to restore and modernize thermal power plants (TPPs) and combined heat-and-power plants (CHPs) during 2027–2030.
