Backed by policy support and rapid advances in technology, China’s truck market — the world’s largest — is electrifying at pace, as cost and technology hurdles are overcome. Electric truck sales have exploded from virtually zero five years ago to almost half of the market in June, at the cost of diesel- and LNG-powered models. The trend is similar to, but faster than, the earlier takeoff of passenger electric vehicles (EVs). The impact on China’s gasoline and diesel consumption is becoming increasingly apparent.
