Bank employees stage protest demanding five-day banking week

Bank employees across Madurai staged a protest on Wednesday evening demanding a five-day work week.The protest was held in front of Canara Bank in Tallakulam. The employees condemned the BJP-led Central government and said that its policies were anti-bank employees and that they were facing excessive workload.The employees demanded a five-day workweek with a mandatory two-day weekly off. They also said that all Saturdays should be declared as bank holidays.More than 300 bank employees participated in the protest. Published - August 12, 2026 11:28 pm IST
