President Cyril Ramaphosa launches South Africa’s electronic travel authorisation system at OR Tambo International Airport, describing the reform as a step towards a more modern, efficient and competitive country.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa’s new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system will strengthen economic openness and national security while improving immigration and border management.

Ramaphosa was speaking at the launch of the ETA at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday.

He said the system would make travel to South Africa easier, faster and more predictable, while helping the country attract tourists, investors and business travellers.

“A modern immigration system is not a weaker immigration system. It is a smarter immigration system,” Ramaphosa said.
