Bulgaria will launch a new procedure for selecting its European Prosecutor after the Supreme Administrative Court overturned a decision adopted by the caretaker government, the Council of Ministers announced on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at an operational meeting of the Council of Ministers on August 12. Following a review of the actions taken by the previous two governments and the legal deficiencies identified by the court, the Justice Ministry will prepare a new decision on the selection procedure.
The proposal is expected to be submitted for consideration at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers. The new procedure will be designed to address the shortcomings identified by the Supreme Administrative Court.
The government said that both the court's findings and all actions taken by the previous two governments in connection with the selection of a Bulgarian candidate for European Prosecutor will be taken into account when preparing the new procedure.
The new selection process became necessary after the Supreme Administrative Court annulled a Council of Ministers decision adopted by the caretaker cabinet concerning the appointment procedure.
