The Constitutional Court has rejected the African Transformation Movement's (ATM) bid to urgently appeal a Western Cape High Court order suspending impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Last month, the Western Cape High Court barred the impeachment committee from holding public hearings until Ramaphosa's review application, which seeks to overturn the independent panel's report finding that he had a case to answer, has been finalised.

ATM leader Vuyo Zungula had approached the Constitutional Court, asking for permission to appeal the matter directly.

In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, the apex court said the outcome of Ramaphosa's review application would make the interim interdict moot.
