The African Transformation Movement (ATM) is set to urgently approach the Constitutional Court for clarity on the implementation of the Section 89 impeachment process against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The party said it had instructed its legal team to seek guidance from the country's highest court after the Western Cape High Court granted Ramaphosa an interim interdict preventing Parliament from proceeding with a public hearing related to the impeachment inquiry stemming from the Phala Phala controversy.
The high court ruled that the interdict would remain in place pending the outcome of Ramaphosa's legal review of the Section 89 independent panel report on the robbery at the Phala Phala game farm and the subsequent investigation into the matter. The review is expected to be heard in September.
The Section 89 independent panel found prima facie evidence that Ramaphosa may have violated his oath of office and the Constitution in the Phala Phala farm scandal.
