The African Transformation Movement (ATM) is set to approach the Constitutional Court for clarity on the impeachment process against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has announced plans to urgently approach the Constitutional Court for clarity on the implementation of the Section 89 impeachment process against President Cyril Ramaphosa, following a recent Western Cape High Court ruling that halted Parliament's impeachment inquiry hearings.
The party said it had instructed its legal team to seek guidance from the country's highest court after the Western Cape High Court granted Ramaphosa an interim interdict preventing Parliament from proceeding with public hearings related to the impeachment inquiry stemming from the Phala Phala controversy.
ATM national spokesperson Zama Ntshona said the judgment had created "significant constitutional uncertainty" and raised questions about the relationship between the courts and Parliament.
"The ATM has instructed its legal team to urgently approach the Constitutional Court to seek clarity on the implementation and effect of its order relating to the Section 89 impeachment process," Ntshona said.
