Iran’s newly appointed secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, said that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is strictly contingent upon Washington meeting Tehran’s core demands, including a complete halt to regional conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Tehran, Cong Peiwu, Rezaei emphasized that the strategic waterway will remain closed unless the United States changes its behavior and accepts Iran’s stipulated conditions, which have been communicated to Washington through intermediaries.
Rezaei reiterated that the U.S. must end its hostile policies, release frozen Iranian assets, and put an immediate end to ongoing wars across the region, specifically highlighting the conflicts in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Placing the blame squarely on Washington, Rezaei accused the United States of driving insecurity in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman, asserting that what he called the “illegal war” on Iran has jeopardized the entire region.
Addressing regional diplomacy, Rezaei clarified that any potential agreement between Iran and the Sultanate of Oman regarding navigation routes and transit in the Strait of Hormuz remains a separate file independent of the overarching closure of the strait.
