Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic, stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States changes its behavior and accepts Iran’s conditions. However, he noted that any potential transit agreement between Iran and Oman regarding navigation through the strait would remain separate from the broader closure of the waterway.
Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Tehran Cong Peiwu, Rezaei asserted that the U.S. had endangered regional security by imposing war on Iran, describing Washington as the source of instability across the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman.
Rezaei outlined Iran’s terms for reopening the strait, specifying an end to U.S. military actions, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and the cessation of conflicts elsewhere in the region, including Lebanon and Gaza. He added that further conditions had been communicated to Washington through intermediaries.
Addressing potential talks with Muscat regarding maritime traffic management, Rezaei said: “If an agreement is reached between Iran and Oman concerning navigation routes in the Strait of Hormuz, this agreement will be distinct from the closure of the strait; the two issues remain separate.”
