Beneficiaries should not assume grants have been cancelled, says SASSA CEO Themba Matlou.
South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Chief Executive Officer Themba Matlou has moved to reassure beneficiaries amid growing concern over social grant reviews, saying the process is intended to verify eligibility and does not automatically result in the termination of grants.
In a message directed to beneficiaries, Matlou said SASSA remains committed to ensuring that qualifying recipients continue to receive the social assistance they are entitled to, while also strengthening the integrity of the social grant system.
He said beneficiaries selected for review should not panic, explaining that the exercise is a routine administrative process aimed at confirming whether recipients still meet the requirements for social assistance.
"Being selected for a review does not automatically mean that you have lost your grant. A review is an important process through which SASSA verifies whether a beneficiary continues to meet the requirements for receiving social assistance," he said.
