OpenAI’s head of ethics, Chloé Bakalar, has left the company less than a year after joining, and has no replacement, according to a report by the Financial Times, at a time when the company is coming under scrutiny over the safety of its AI models.
Bakalar joined the start-up as AI ethics lead last August and left the company in July without a public announcement, the FT report said, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.
Several staff members in high-profile roles associated with ethics have left OpenAI in recent weeks, including head of safety systems Johannes Heidecke, and Joshua Achiam, chief futurist and former head of mission alignment, according to the report.
