Aasif Malbari, MD & CEO, Godrej Consumer Products

Shares of Godrej Consumer Products fell as ‌much as 10% to their lowest levels in more than three years on Wednesday after CEO Sudhir Sitapati unexpectedly ‌resigned just months after his reappointment, fuelling concerns ‌over the abrupt leadership ‌change. The consumer goods maker on Tuesday named CFO Aasif Malbari as its new chief, with analysts saying investors ‌were reacting to the sudden transition rather than any immediate change in business strategy. The ‌stock was last down 8.96% at ₹932.90 as of 9:24 am IST.Sitapati resigned with immediate effect on Monday, a move Jefferies ‌described as a “surprising” development given the board was in the process of discussing an extension to his tenure.“While Sitapati’s departure is sudden ‌and unexpected, we believe Godrej Consumer’s current leadership team is well-equipped to manage a seamless transition with minimal vacuum in strategy,” Systematix said, retaining its “buy” rating on the stock.
