Kenyan runner Brenda Kenei aims to break the 30:30 barrier at the TotalSports Women’s Race Joburg 10km, despite the high altitude and hilly course, as she seeks to qualify for the 2027 World Championships. Picture: supplied
Though she will be competing on South African soil for the first time, Kenyan Brenda Kenei might just be the runner to beat at the TotalSports Women’s Race Joburg 10km race on Sunday.
“I’m excited to compete in South Africa for the first time, especially in a women’s-only race where I can celebrate alongside thousands of sports-loving women while chasing the qualifying standard for the 2027 World Championships,” said Kenei.
Kenei has a lightning-fast Personal Best of 30:29, which is a minute faster than the winning time her compatriot Daisilah Jerono managed at the Cape Town stop of the series over the weekend.
With Joburg sitting at high altitude though, running such fast times may prove difficult, explained Kenei.
