In the coming weeks, rising prices for graphics cards are expected again. The already extremely high prices could increase by another 20 percent. The reason: At the beginning of August, card manufacturers like Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI began passing on Nvidia’s price increases.
These companies often buy a bundle of GPU and memory chips from Nvidia. While this is no longer a condition for a deal from Nvidia’s side, as has been the norm for a long time, it is apparently still attractive in times of chip shortages. The card manufacturers do not have to worry about procuring the rare chips themselves and at least receive enough components to equip the available GPUs. Asus, for example, confirmed to the YouTube channel Gamers Nexus at Computex in June that the bundle business is still being practiced.
As Wccftech reports, citing the Chinese forum “Board Channels”, Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI recently informed their direct customers and wholesalers about the price increases. In the cited communications, the content of which cannot be immediately verified, all three companies state that the selling price of graphics cards is to increase by 20 percent. Typically, such price increases reach retailers with a delay of two to three weeks, when retailers reorder sold products.
