A six-year-old girl has died and another child has been rushed to hospital with a leg injury after a car collided with a lorry. Emergency services raced to the collision on the northbound road close to junction 28 on the A12 near Colchester, in Essex, on Monday. Police said all emergency services were called shortly after 10.30am and the road was closed in both directions to allow them to work quickly at the scene. The six-year-old girl was pronounced dead and the second child is being treated in hospital. No arrests were made at the scene and the lorry driver passed all road-side tests. They will be interviewed in the coming days, Essex Police said. Detective Inspector Mark Fraser, of the serious collision investigation unit, said: 'First and foremost, my thoughts are very much with this young child's family and wider loved ones.'We have specialist officers in place with them to ensure they are given as much support as possible.'Our investigation is progressing and we will be interviewing a driver of a lorry in the coming days. The incident involved a lorry and a car.'The road was closed in both directions to allow for emergency services to work quickly at the scene.'Tragically, a six-year-old girl died at the scene. A second child sustained a leg injury and is being treated in hospital.'No arrests were made at the scene.
