Alicia English reflects on 50 years of Mitchells Plain, in this week's episode of Crossing The Line with Ryland Fisher.
Mitchells Plain celebrates its 50th birthday this year and Dr Alicia English, one of the founding members of the Mitchells Plain Legacy project, interviewed on the Crossing the Line podcast, reflected on their programme so far and what else to expect before the end of the year.
Crossing the Line was started by veteran journalist and former Cape Times editor, Ryland Fisher, last year and have also posted more than 20 interviews with interesting people. IOL features one of these interviews every week.
Dr English grew up in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain, and now lives in Portlands. She is involved in several organisations in the area, including being board president of Alliance Francaise Mitchells Plain and chairing the board of the Mitzpah Educare Centre.
“One of the best things for me about growing up in Mitchells Plain was the sense of community. Your parents had to go to work and come home late at night, but there would always be this auntie there to take care of you.
