The National Police is stepping up its investigative efforts to prevent abuses in the operations of territorial recruitment centers, as well as during the processing of reservations and the decision-making of military medical commissions.
Specifically, 76 heads of territorial recruitment centers of various ranks have been notified of suspicion; authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the possible illegal deferment of nearly 2,500 conscripts; and 6,500 illegal decisions by military medical commissions have been overturned, Maksym Tsutskiridze, acting head of the National Police, said in a statement to Ukrinform.
“It is a matter of principle for me that the law applies equally to both those subject to military service and to officials responsible for the draft or who make decisions as members of the military medical commission. Position, rank, or access to any resources cannot serve as a shield from accountability. But it is equally important that accountability always be individual and evidence-based. We cannot allow the exposure of specific abuses to turn into a campaign against all territorial recruitment center employees or lead to the automatic overturning of legitimate conclusions regarding people who truly have serious illnesses or injuries,” he noted.
