In one of the most exciting fights of the night, and one that had many people debating on social media, Anzel Kellerman defeated Luka Morris via unanimous decision in their PFC title bout (U/55kg), which had the place buzzing. Picture: Lee Johnson, MzansiMMA

Fighters, athletes, competitors, sportsmen and women step into a ring or cage for various reasons, and whatever “why” moved the athletes competing at the PFC this past weekend, it was clear that for some, if not all, answers, clarity and closure were found at the sound of the final bell.

On Saturday night, down at Wolraad Woltemade Primary School in Bothasig, the Professional Fighting Championship, one of Cape Town’s most beloved and dear combat sport promotions, an Old School or Day One of note, returned to deliver a platform for hungry and budding boxers and kickboxers from across Africa to express themselves and hone their skills.

In comparison to the bigger and grander venues, including locations like the SunExhibits at GrandWest Casino, this one, while smaller, made for a more intense and intimate atmosphere, as more than 600 people entered the school property, baying for controlled chaos and action to whet their appetites.

A moment of nostalgia was present as the “furniture” of the Cape Town combat sport scene once again showed up to support one of the oldest brands in the game — an acknowledgement of the respect for the brand that Aunty Alice, Uncle Neville and son Angelo Addinall have built over the years, creating a family fighting community and platform for fighters.
