The Federal Fire Service (FFS) says it has overcome longstanding operational challenges, including inadequate water and fuel supplies, that previously hampered its ability to respond promptly to fire outbreaks and other emergencies across the country.
Olumode Adeyemi, Controller-General of the FFS, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja while unveiling newly constructed quarter guards at the Service’s headquarters and the Wuse Area Command.
Adeyemi said the development formed part of efforts to reposition the Service, strengthen the morale of its personnel and restore public confidence in the ability of firefighters to respond effectively to emergencies.
According to him, when he assumed office about a year ago, he identified the need to rebuild public trust in the Federal Fire Service and ensure that Nigerians could depend on the agency whenever their lives and property were threatened.
“I was asked what would be part of my legacy, and I said I want Nigerians to have trust in the Federal Fire Service in terms of saving lives and property. They must have that trust in us,” he said.
