German investigators have found a DNA trace linking a recent drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport to a Lithuanian investigation into incendiary parcels sent abroad, German tabloid Bild reported Monday.
The DNA trace has not been linked to a specific individual but matches evidence collected after an incident at a DHL logistics centre in Leipzig in July 2024, according to the report.
At the time, four parcels were sent from Lithuania to Britain and Poland. Two of the packages, which contained incendiary devices, were shipped through DHL. One caught fire at Leipzig airport in Germany and another ignited at a warehouse in Britain.
Charges related to the incendiary devices have been brought against Lithuanian citizen Aleksandr Suranov; Ukrainian citizens Vadym Borsuk and Vasyl Kovach; dual Russian-Lithuanian national Daniil Jencius; and Russian citizen Eldar Salmanov.
The reported DNA link comes as German authorities investigate a drone carrying explosives that was discovered near a Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4.
