JAKARTA, Indonesia — Beijing Automobile Works Co. Ltd. launched its brand in Indonesia at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in Tangerang, anchoring its right-hand-drive market entry on electric passenger vans, city commuters and commercial delivery trucks.

Operating through its local subsidiary, PT BAW Automobile Trading Indonesia, the manufacturer plans to establish a local knock-down assembly plant in West Java. The facility will serve as an assembly and export base for right-hand-drive markets across Southeast Asia.

BAW’s electric vehicle catalog at GIIAS leads with the M8, a full-size electric multi-purpose vehicle targeted at corporate fleets, airport shuttles and family transport. Fitted with an 81 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack paired with a rear-mounted 170 kW electric motor, the M8 delivers a claimed driving range of up to 505 kilometers under the CLTC testing cycle. Fast-charging hardware allows the pack to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in under 45 minutes.
