Santorini and the Amalfi Coast will never lose their luster, though saving those particular spots for shoulder season makes considerable sense given how intensely crowded they’ve become during peak summer. Swapping the tried-and-true classics for a handful of up-and-coming Mediterranean gems instead offers a way to experience the same coastal beauty, historic architecture, and excellent food without the density of visitors that now defines the region’s most famous stops.
