Collector N. O. Sukhaputra distributes deworming tablets to students at a school at Soolakkarai in Virudhunagar on Monday.
A total of 7.11 lakh women and students would be given deworming tablets in Virudhunagar district marking National Deworming Day.Collector N. O. Sukhaputra on Monday inaugurated the distribution of tablets to students at Soolakkarai Government Higher Secondary School.Under the programme, a total of 5.78 lakh children children aged 1 year up to 19 years and 1.33 lakh women aged 20 to 30 years would be given the tablets in Virudhunagar district, the Collector said.The camps were conducted by 292 village health nurses, 1,504 anganwadi workers, 3,280 school teachers. Also, 11 mobile medical teams and 22 Rashtriy aBal Swathya Karyakram teams and 11 block medical officers supervised the distribution of tablets.“The worms enter the body through soil in areas where hygienic atmosphere is lacking. The worms affect the natural physical development of the children and also cause anemia,” he added.The Collector appealed to the people to avoid open defecation.The left-out students would be given tablets on August 17, he added.District Health Officer V.
