Local administration officials across the region participated in special camps held in schools, public health facilities, and other designated centres, to distribute Albandezole (deworming) tablets on Monday. The drive was held as part of the annual programme conducted under the auspices of the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Government of Tamil Nadu, in February and August in connection with National Deworming Day. According to official sources, 3,73,000 children between the ages of one to 19 and 15,560 women (except those who are pregnant or lactating) in the age group of 20-30, received the tablets in Tiruchi district on Monday.In Pudukottai, District Collector M. Aruna distributed tablets to schoolchildren at Sri Brahadambal Government Higher Secondary School on Monday.A total of 4,56,764 children and 1,14,452 women from the district received the tablets.In Karur district, 2,39,236 children and 80,627 women received the deworming tablets. Karur District Collector C. Muthukumaran gave away the medicine at the camp organised in Pasupatheeswara Municipal Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Jawahar Bazaar, on Monday.Nagapattinam District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar participated in the distribution camp organised at the Corporation Elementary School in Palpannaicherry. A total of 1,74,843 schoolchildren and 41,274 women form the target group of the camps in Nagapattinam district.Special camps will be held on August 17 to cover those who were left out in the initial round, according to an official announcement.
