As South Africa approaches its local government elections, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, co-chairperson of the National Joint Operations and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS), has issued a strong warning against politically motivated violence. He also noted a decline in protest activities throughout the country.
On Friday, Mosikili held a media briefing on the latest developments in implementing a coordinated response to illegal migration enforcement operations underway in South Africa, warning that individuals plotting politically motivated attacks or assassinations would face arrest and prolonged prison terms upon conviction.
This warning comes amid heightened scrutiny around the potential for anti-foreigner sentiments and political killings influencing the upcoming elections.
"On the issue of whether anti-foreigner sentiment is linked to the upcoming elections, there is no evidence we can talk about. However, we are observing all events and activities leading up to the elections," she stated.
