The error occurred during The Barry Marsh Show in May when a staff member played restricted files out of curiosity, followed by the national anthem and 16 minutes of silence. Media regulator Ofcom ruled that the station breached accuracy rules and failed to correct the significant error quickly enough on air. Ofcom noted that the clarification took around 30 minutes to broadcast after the presenter panicked and left the premises. Radio Caroline confirmed the responsible staff member had been reprimanded and apologised, and the sensitive files have been removed from the studio computer.
