Former Cape Town mayor and leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Geordin Hill-Lewis, has urged South Africans to use their votes wisely and vote for the change they want to see in their communities.
Speaking to a gathering of enthusiastic DA members at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown on Saturday, Hill-Lewis unveiled the party's much-anticipated election manifesto, emphasising that the DA is uniquely equipped to establish clean and functional local governments across the country.
He stated that the 'rot' observed in metros like Johannesburg and the Emfuleni local municipality, as well as other municipalities suffering from corruption and service delivery challenges, stems from residents placing their trust in leaders who do not prioritise their interests.
He added that the party has demonstrated clean governance where it has led and it restored hope that has been broken for far too long, without forcing citizens to beg government for service delivery.
