Bulgaria’s share of the European Union’s economic output has doubled since the country joined the bloc in 2007, according to the latest Eurostat data.
In 2025, Bulgaria accounted for 0.6% of the EU’s total GDP, ranking 19th among member states by economic output. When Bulgaria entered the EU 18 years ago, its economy represented just 0.3% of the bloc’s GDP.
In nominal terms, Bulgaria’s economy expanded from €32.46 billion in 2007 to nearly €116.02 billion in 2025, marking growth of 257.4%.
By comparison, the EU economy increased from around €10.8 trillion in 2007 to nearly €18.8 trillion in 2025, or a growth rate of 74.1%.
The figures show that Bulgaria’s economy grew about 3.5 times faster than the EU average over the 2007-2025 period, according to Eurostat data.
