Bulgaria recorded the fastest annual growth in services production among European Union member states in April 2026, according to the latest preliminary figures released by Eurostat. Output in the country's services sector climbed 9.3% compared with April 2025, placing Bulgaria at the top of the EU rankings.
The performance significantly outpaced the broader European trend. Across both the eurozone and the EU as a whole, services production increased by 1.8% year over year. Estonia followed Bulgaria with annual growth of 6.4%, while Poland ranked third at 6.0%. At the opposite end of the scale, Romania recorded the steepest decline at 5.8%, followed by Denmark with a 5.3% drop and Luxembourg with a decrease of 2.9%.
The figures highlight Bulgaria's particularly strong momentum in the services economy, with annual growth well above the European average and stronger than any other member state for which data were available.
On a monthly basis, seasonally adjusted services production also continued to expand. Compared with March 2026, output rose by 0.7% in the eurozone and by 0.3% across the EU. The previous month had seen more modest growth of 0.1% in the euro area and 0.4% across the bloc.
