Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) Ltd has announced that the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA), a merchant maritime academy jointly operated by MOL and Magsaysay Maritime Corporation in Manila, the Philippines, has enrolled 208 cadets, including 31 women, for the academic year 2026. The institute recorded its highest-ever enrolment of women, bringing the cumulative number of women cadets admitted to MMMA since its establishment to more than 100. This milestone reflects MMMA’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in maritime education and providing opportunities for talented young people regardless of gender in a field that has traditionally been male-dominated, says a company release.Joining hands to keep runways safeThree global aviation bodies — International Air Transport Association, Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation and Airports Council International — have launched a joint initiative to reduce the risk of runway incursions. A runway incursion is defined as an aircraft, vehicle or person being incorrectly present on a runway or within its protected area. The Joint Runway Safety Initiative focuses on three areas — improving safety reporting and data capture, strengthening local runway safety teams and sharing progress and lessons learned.Emirates, SA Airways expand tie-upEmirates and South African Airways (SAA) have announced an expansion of their codeshare partnership, enabling access to nine cities and the start of a reciprocal codeshare agreement between the carriers. The expanded partnership opens more destinations across Central and Southern Africa. Since launching their codeshare agreement, Emirates and SAA have operated on a unilateral basis, with SAA placing its code on Emirates-operated flights between Dubai and Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, as well as interline access to 68 Emirates destinations worldwide via Dubai.
