Daniel Kinahan (49) has appeared before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin where he faced a charge of directing organised crime. He was brought before a special sitting at the Courts of Criminal Justice (CCJ) on Sunday evening.
The married father of five became the first Irish person ever extradited from United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier in the day.
He was brought back to Ireland on the Government jet, flown by Air Corps personnel and with a team of gardaí on board, after a first extradition treaty was agreed between Ireland and UAE.
Kinahan was arrested in Dubai in April on foot of an extradition request from the Irish authorities after the DPP directed he face a charge of directing organised crime. He had been in custody in Dubai since then as his extradition case went through the courts, concluding late last month.
On Sunday, An Air Corps flight carrying Kinahan, who has lived openly in Dubai with his family for a decade, touched down shortly after 6.30pm at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Co Dublin.
