Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Suspected Irish crime boss Daniel Kinahan appeared in a Dublin court Sunday hours after he was extradited to the Irish Republic from the United Arab Emirates.
Kinahan, the alleged leader of a far-ranging criminal cartel responsible for trafficking tons of drugs and firearms around the world, stood before a late evening session of the Special Criminal Court after being whisked to the courtroom directly from a military airbase in Baldonnel, Ireland, in a bulletproof police convoy, Irish broadcaster RTE and the BBC reported.
There, Kinahan, 49, faced a three-judge panel and was charged with a single count of directing the activities of a criminal organization from 2015 and 2017 and was remanded into custody until Oct. 5.
