The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has scrambled to distance itself from viral reports claiming it called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign from his position, triggering a wave of heavy backlash and mockings from aggrieved Nigerian football fans.
In a disclaimer posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, the embattled football governing body in Nigeria labeled the reports as "outright falsehood," reaffirming its loyalty to the FIFA chief.
The statement read: "Contrary to reports, especially on social media, #thenff has never asked and is not asking for #FIFAcom President, Mr. Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA PRESIDENT. This is outright falsehood. Kindly disregard."
