Flyhalf Libbie Janse van Rensburg extended her record as the Springbok Women's leading Test points scorer to 221 as she led her team to victory over Fiji on her debut as skipper.
The Springbok Women did exactly what they set out to do in Suva, leaning on their set-piece strength while showing enough variety to sweep aside Fiji 55-12 in the opening Test of their two-match series.
With a much-changed side taking the field, South Africa's ability to dominate the scrums, lineouts and maul provided the foundation for a nine-try victory, while the successful integration of several sevens regulars added another encouraging dimension.
For flyhalf and captain Libbie Janse van Rensburg, who was leading the Springbok Women for the first time, it was a performance built around the team's core strengths.
"We wanted to dominate our set pieces, something that we pride ourselves in. I think our scrums and our lineout mauling game worked really well for us," said Janse van Rensburg.
