The wreckage of the car and the minibus taxi on the M4 in Gqeberha

Four people were killed when a car veered out of control and slammed into a taxi in Gqeberha on Saturday.

Eastern Cape transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose said four others were seriously injured in the crash on the M4 at about 5.30am.

Six people were in the VW Polo when it crossed the centre median and ended up facing the oncoming minibus taxi, which was carrying two.

"Preliminary information indicates that the Polo, which was carrying six occupants, collided head-on with a minibus taxi carrying two occupants," he said.
