Residents have complained on social media about sewage contamination of drinking water in the city. In a social media post, a resident complained about suspected sewage contamination of water in a residential complex on ECR in Thiruvanmiyur. Another social media post read: “Over 50 of our staff who came for our function from various locations in Tamilnadu are having food poisoning, most likely from the hotel food on ECR. I have given instructions, if they have severe vomiting and diarrhea, to go to the government hospital. Health of our staff is our paramount interest. It is a serious issue that should be avoided henceforth.”Officials said the incidents may be isolated and advised residents to drink only boiled water, as home Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants can easily become contaminated.Former councillor Mangala Raj said the sewage contamination of water has been reported in areas such as Taramani. Ward 104 councillor T.V. Shemmozhi said the residents of L Block in Anna Nagar have complained about sewage contamination of drinking water. “GCC and Metrowater have to coordinate to resolve such civic issues.
