Residents in several parts of Tiruchi have expressed concern over the irregular supply of drinking water, stating that the disruption has affected their daily routine.According to residents, several areas, particularly tail-end localities, have been receiving drinking water at irregular intervals over the past few weeks. Localities, including Kallukuzhi, Sethuraman Pillai Colony, Sangiliandapuram, Palpannai, Gandhi Nagar and interior streets of Anbu Nagar, have been among the worst affected.Residents say the uncertainty over the water supply schedule has made it difficult to plan household activities. Many allege that despite repeated representations to the authorities, the issue remains unresolved. The irregular supply has compelled several families to purchase water from private tanker operators, increasing their monthly household expenditure. Apartment associations in a few localities have also arranged private tanker services to meet the daily water requirements of residents.“Water is not being supplied daily, and even when it is, the pressure is too low to fill our storage tanks. We are forced to depend on private tankers, which have become an additional financial burden,” said R. Daisy, a resident of Kallukuzhi.According to sources, in some places, drinking water pipelines were damaged during the laying of pipelines for the ongoing underground drainage (UGD) works, resulting in disruptions to the supply.Corporation officials say the workers have been instructed to identify and rectify damaged pipelines at the earliest. They attribute the irregular supply to maintenance works on transmission pipelines, periodic repairs to the distribution network and power interruptions at pumping stations.“Maintenance works on the main pipelines have resulted in temporary supply interruptions in certain areas. Efforts are being taken to streamline the distribution system and restore the normal supply schedule at the earliest,” a senior official said. Published - July 07, 2026 07:14 pm IST
