Across Chennai District, Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) have flagged systemic concerns regarding waste management, road re-laying practices, traffic violations, public safety, and coordination among civic authorities such as the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB) and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (Tangedco).
With less than 10 days to go for polling, these associations hope the upcoming government holds meetings regularly to swiftly address the issues.
The United Welfare Associations of Ambattur said residents had called for the expansion of CTH Road (Chennai-Thiruvallur High Road), completion of internal roads and drainage systems, and improved traffic regulation.
They also demand 100% underground sewer connections, protection of waterbodies such as Ambattur, Korattur and Puzhal lakes, and enforcement of solid waste management rules, including segregation at source.
The Mandaveli Raja Street Residents’ Welfare Association raised concerns over unsafe construction practices that have damaged neighbouring properties and clogged storm-water drains with debris.
