Street lights have emerged as the most important civic issue reported by residents in the city in the past few days.

Of the 8,694 civic complaints received from residents, by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) this month, 14.02% have been about street lights, the highest among over 200 different types of complaints registered by residents.

Removal of garbage has emerged as the second major civic issue, with 1,152 complaints registered so far this month. As many as 679 residents complained about the absenteeism of door-to-door garbage collectors.

A total of 508 residents have complained about bad roads, demanding the repair of potholes and the restoration of road surfaces.

Of the 88,434 complaints received by the GCC in the last three months, complaints about dogs were the highest (13850, 15.66% of the complaints). However, after October 1, only 11.6% of the complaints were about dogs, official data shows.
