Renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) did not act illegally by freezing the accounts of the Osun State Government, insisting that the anti-graft agency has the legal power to freeze the funds of federal, state and local governments subject to judicial oversight.
Falana made this known on Friday while appearing on Channels Television, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, where he discussed the legality of the EFCC’s action against the Osun State government.
The senior lawyer was asked whether the EFCC had the legal authority to freeze the accounts of a state government through a court order and whether the process it adopted was constitutional.
Responding, Falana said the EFCC had acted within the law and that the legal position on the matter had already been settled by the courts.
