The family of George de Rock is mourning after the trail runner died during a trail run at Constantia Nek.
For George de Rock, turning 47 was meant to be a celebration of life, resilience and pushing beyond his limits. Instead, his family is mourning the sudden loss of a husband, father and friend after he died during a trail run at Constantia Nek in Cape Town on Thursday.
George had planned to mark his birthday on August 6 by attempting his longest trail run yet, a 47km challenge that represented not only his love for running, but his determination to embrace life.
His wife, Yolanda de Rock, shared the devastating news and said the tragedy was something she never imagined she would have to announce.
“This is the last thing I thought I would be doing this morning,” she said.
